Nanyang Peer Support Leaders 2009
Introduction.
The Peer Support Programme is an educational programme formulated on the principle that people learn from one other and are often influenced by the company they keep. In Nanyang Girls' High School, we are committed to providing the best for students through a caring school environment. This programme is one that enables the peer support leaders to help others and themselves become better people through the cultivation of respect, responsibilities and meaningful relationships.

To be exemplary role models for their school peers; to nurture effective and confident leaders with high moral integrity.
Objectives.
*To serve the student body and develop through the cultivation of respect, responsibility and meaningful relationships at inter-class and inter-school levels.
*To be one channel of communication between the student body, and the school administration.
*To work closely in collaboration with various SL groups on the planning and the implementation of school events.
*To help the Sec One students make the transition into life from primary school to secondary school as well as to be someone they can turn to for advice and provide a listening ear.
Roles and Responsibilities.
*To be a buddy/ mentor to the Sec One students to aid them in the transition into secondary school and help them to become familiar with the routines of school.
*To take charge of a group of Sec One students and discuss ares of concern, (e.g. "Induction into the school", "Developing Friendship and Building Bonds", "Handling Peer Pressure") during orientation.
*To act as Peer tutors to assist the Sec One students with their studies.
*To contribute their services to school during special functions e.g. Sec One Registration and Sec One Orientation etc.
*To act as school presenters and tour leaders to foreign visits and exchange students.
*To encourage their own class to participate actively in school events.
*To serve as leaders in organizing school events such as the Secondary One Orientation.
Peer Support Board Organization Structure.
Special Events Committee:The Special Events Committee is set up to take part in the planning and execution of various NYSL school events that PSL is involved in, togther with other student leader groups like NYSC, BOM and BEL. It has a main committee of eight and various sub-committees- named after the event that it is involved in- to help out and execute the events planned.
Main events under the committee include Teachers' Day, Year-end PSL Camp, Graduation Night, the various Parents-Teachers meeting (PTM), Open House and Secondary One Orientation, one of the larger scale events planned by the PSL. It works closely with the Human Resource Committee for the allocation of manpower.
Marketing Committee: The Marketing Committee manages events that require tour leading, ushering and marketing of NYGH. It aims to leave a good impression on our visitors and help to project a favorable image for the school. The committee also schedules training sessions for presenters and tour guides in order to ensure the smooth execution of events.
Main events under the committee include tours for foreign visitors and primary school students, the PSL shirt and handbook, as well as the maintenance of the PSL website, ushering duties for school events such as Parents Teachers Meetings (PTM), Open House and Secondary One Registration.
Training and Development Committee: The Training and Development committee is in charge of the fund-raising projects, workshops for PSLs, the improvement of PSL sessions and service-learning projects and organizing various in-house training programmes.
Human Resource Committee: The Human Resource Committee is in charge of the deployment of all PSLs form day-to-day duties like flag-raising and SAC duties to school events such as prize giving. The committee is also in charge of the level coordinators which help to disseminate messages to the PSL in their year groups.
Welfare Committee: The Welfare Committee was previously known as the SAC committee. Now the committee not only takes care of the affairs revolving around the SAC maintenance, it also looks into the welfare if all PSLs as well as the administration matters.
Main events under this committee include the taking of minutes and the collation of attendance for PSL general meetings and NYSL general meetings as well as updating the PSL notice board.
